Chloe: Unless christmas came early this year, that better not have my name on it.
Oliver: Maybe you’ve just been especially good this year. Maybe a guy shouldn’t take someone like you for granted.
Chloe: I didn’t think you were, Ollie. Clark said something, didn’t he?
Oliver: It’s just a gift.
Chloe: No. It’s a slippery slope. “Just because” gifts are never just because. There’s always some unspoken part, like “I’m sorry” or “I feel very strongly about you,” both of which are complicated. I wanted to keep things simple, with, like, no strings or ribbons.
Oliver: Wait, where are you going?
Chloe: I’m going for a walk.When I come back, can we just hit the “reset” button and play our favorite indoor game again?
slippery slope -- dict.cc übersetzt es mit “Dammbruchargument”, habe ich auf Deutsch noch nie gehört. Eine andere Erklärung ist “if someone is on a slippery slope, they are involved in a course of action that cannot be stopped and that will lead to failure or serious trouble.” (Aus Collins Dictionary for Idioms)

Mein Duden-Oxford-Wörterbuch meint:
be on a slippery path or slope (fig.) auf einem verhängnisvollen Weg sein
Die dict.cc-Übersetzung ist da ein bisschen zu sehr auf die Rhetorik beschränkt, finde ich.

Ein verhängnisvoller Weg? Wäre ein guter Titel für einen Film, hört sich sehr dramatisch an. Aber danke für die Übersetzung
Trifft ja die englische Beschreibung oben sehr gut, nur die Übersetzung von dict.cc nicht.

Das heisst doch einfach, was es mehr oder weniger buchstäblich übersetzt bedeutet: Vorsicht rutschiger Abhang! Da kann man ausrutschen. Muss aber nicht sein.

dammbruchargumente…wenn wir cannabis legalisieren würden, wären türen und tore offen auch andere drogen in einem nächsten schritt zu legalisieren…nur als beispiel. mag das. weil man damit jeden fortschritt blocken kann. ist nru nicht besonders überzeugend.
hört man, wenn man angewandte ethik studiert. macht nur keiner. aber später ist man ja immer klüger.^^.
