to mint – prägen, münzen
Das klärt für mich endlich die Frage, warum Comics und Actionfiguren “mint” oder in “mint condition” sind, wenn sie im Originalzustand, bzw. noch in der Verpackung sind. to be in mint condition bedeutet bei Münzen, Briefmarken oder auch Geldscheinen “druckfrisch/prägefrisch sein”. Das wurde dann einfach auf sämtliche Sammelobjekte übertragen. Wenn etwas im Originalzustand ist, ist es mint. Hatte mich immer gefragt, woher das kommt, habe aber nie nachgeguckt.
